We have activated the TEC Wildfire Mitigation Plan for the line section at the end of Mt. Si Road in North Bend due to a RED FLAG WARNING that is in effect until 11:00 p.m. on July 9, 2024.

For the area highlighted in yellow below, any outage cannot be restored until the TEC Operations Crew patrols the affected system during daylight hours.

What is a Red Flag Warning?

The National Weather Service is responsible for issuing any Red Flag Warnings. Wildland conditions changed rapidly in August. In response to the red flag warnings, Tanner Electric set its lines to high sensitivity to ensure the safe operation of the system. During a Red Flag Warning, the TEC lines are set at higher sensitivity, and outages can occur more easily. That’s why it’s important to remain prepared for summer outages, just as you would for winter.

During Red Flag Warnings, outage times can be significantly extended. Per the TEC Fire Mitigation Plan, we will dispatch personnel as usual. However, crews can only re-energize overhead lines patrolled during DAYLIGHT hours. If an outage happens after sunset, Tanner may not restore power until sunrise.

Defensible space is an important step members can take to protect homes and property. This buffer between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs or surrounding wildland areas can slow or stop the spread of wildfire. One question we’ve received from members is whether a red flag warning has been issued.
