Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
March 25, 2020 – On Wednesday, March 25, 2020 the Senate approved a $2 trillion stimulus package in response to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. As a result of that stimulus package, LIHEAP will be seeing a historic $900 million in emergency contingency funding release in addition to regular LIHEAP funding all of which besides the final 1 percent of which has been released. These additional funds will be released to all grantees; including States, Territories and Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations (Tribes) in upcoming weeks to help eligible low-income households afford their energy costs and avoid making cutbacks on other household essentials as a result of hardship caused by the virus.

Pierce County Community Action Agency provides assistance with heat bills to low income households that are income eligible. This agency provides assistance to Pierce County residents that live OUTSIDE the city limits of Tacoma. If you live inside the city limits of Tacoma please call the M.D.C. at (253) 572-5557.

You do not need to be past due or shut off to qualify for assistance.
To make an appointment or to see if you qualify please call 1-253-798-4328. This line is open 7 days a week when appointments are availabe. Appointments are booked up to two weeks in advance. If all of the appointments have been filled you will need to call as early as possible the next day.
If your heat source has been disconnected or if your primary heat source is oil, propane or wood and you have less than 10 days supply please call (253) 798-3590. Please do not call this number unless your heat source has been disconnected.
